UPDATE: Grief counselors visit schools after student’s death in accident

Grief counselors were brought to Mount Vernon and Galloway Schools on Monday Sept after the death of junior Benjamin Reiser Reiser who was driving a motorcycle was killed in an accident with a sports utility carriage on Sept at the intersection of Roswell Road NE and Laurel Forest Circle NE Reiser was a junior at Mount Vernon School It was his first year at the school after attending Galloway School prior to that according to a Galloway spokesperson Mount Vernon Head of School Kristy Lundstrom disclosed in a message that the school brought additional counselors and local faith leaders to its Sandy Springs campus to sponsorship its staff counseling group The spokesperson for Galloway School announced grief counselors were brought to both its campuses including ones from the Berman Center an outpatient therapy center in Atlanta and Art-It-Out which has specialties that include helping children adolescents and adults with anxiety grief or loss The Galloway spokesperson disclosed Reiser was well known for his participation on the school s swim unit We are devastated by the tragic loss of one of our students Benjamin Reiser who passed away in a motor carriage accident on Saturday evening Lundstrom declared in the declaration shared with Rough Draft Atlanta Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they manage this unimaginable grief Just as our colleagues in the Galloway School area are doing we are focused on supporting our students and all who knew and loved Benjamin through this incredibly tough time Lundstrom disclosed the school s priority is to ensure that no one feels alone in his or her grief Our group is built on care and connection and in moments like this we are reminded of the importance of coming together We will continue to walk alongside our students and families in the days and weeks ahead honoring Benjamin s life Lundstrom reported The Atlanta Police Department APD responded to the accident on Sept and observed a motorcycle and SUV that were involved in the collision according to a news release The driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries according to the APD s news release It is not known whether it has been determined that Reiser or the driver of the SUV was at fault The APD Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene for additional scrutiny This is a progressing story Check back for updates The post UPDATE Grief counselors visit schools after attendee s death in accident appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta
