An event called Not Another Brick in the Wall A Stonewall and Atlanta Commemorative Protest is set for Saturday June from - p m in Piedmont Park Hosted by Georgia the movement fighting to uphold the Constitution and end executive overreach the gathering near the Oak Hill entrance at th and Argonne will feature guest speakers including longtime activists Dave Hayward and Maria Helena Dolan According to event spokesperson Tammy Pallot the June event will commemorate a demonstration held in Piedmont Park in on the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots the police raid on a New York City gay bar that touched off the modern gay rights movement In light of the up-to-date vandalism of Pride flags in Midtown and the escalating political rhetoric targeting gay and trans individuals coupled with policies that increasingly threaten LGBTQIA rights it is more crucial than ever that we understand and honor our history Pallot advised Georgia Voice Pallot reported Hayward and Dolan who are both members of Touching Up Our Roots the city s LGBTQ history project lived through the pivotal moments of LGBTQ history and that their firsthand accounts and wisdom provide invaluable insights into the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our area s journey We will also hear experiences from the younger generation bridging the historical narrative with contemporary perspectives Pallot revealed Since the first Atlanta Pride Parade began as a protest maruch rally attendees on Saturday will march to the Rainbow Crosswalk with protest signs to carry forward the spirit of activism Pallot noted Pallot mentioned attendees can return to the park after the march to continue sharing stories and building district The post Piedmont Park protest to mark anniversary of Stonewall honor history of Pride appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta
