Douglas County Judge Ryan Stuart has sentenced Hanna Gilmour to years in prison for the death of her -month-old son according to a news release from the rd Judicial District A jury previously detected Gilmour guilty of felony child abuse resulting in death and misdemeanor child abuse following the death of her son Layton Thirty-six years will never bring back a beautiful innocent child but that number shows Layton s short life mattered and this sentence reflects that reported Chief Deputy District Attorney Danielle Jaramillo in a declaration The child s father Jacob Birkbeck arrived at Gilmour s apartment in Littleton for a custody exchange in November and determined his son didn t look right Gilmour allegedly laughed and noted the boy was sleeping according to the news release Birkbeck later noticed Layton wasn t breathing and called The child died and when investigators searched Gilmour s home they revealed cocaine mushrooms marijuana and fentanyl according to the news release Prosecutors alleged Layton crawled on the floor and accidentally ingested fentanyl which led to his death
